All metal architectural panels have wide, flat surfaces to fill the demands of today's consumers. While Ryerson has responded to these demands, we have a responsibility to point out that a wide and perfectly flat appearance is not always possible. All flat steel surfaces can display waviness commonly referred to as "oil canning". This is caused by steel mill tolerances, variations in the deck/purlin alignment and relative reflectivity of the material. "Oil canning" is an inherent characteristic of flat steel products, not a defect, and therefore is not a cause for panel rejection. |
